Independently calculated odds. Every figure here is counted exactly from all possible deals for the rules and payouts shown; your casino's may differ. How our odds are calculated
Three streets, three decisions
Mississippi Stud has no dealer hand. You play against the paytable, and you decide three times how much more to bet. Up to ten units can ride on one hand, and every one of them is paid by the same five cards.
When to fold, bet 1x or bet 3x
Points: every jack, queen, king or ace you can use is 2 points; every 6 to 10 is 1 point; 2s to 5s are nothing. We counted every hand exactly. Played by these rules, the house edge is 4.916% per Ante, 0.001% from perfect play, and on every hand you can actually reach the rules make the same call as the exact count.
3rd Street: your two cards
4th Street: plus the first community card
5th Street: plus the second community card
Bet 1x or 3x, never 2x. Every street's bet pays the same as the others, so the right size is always the most or the least. 2x is never the best bet.
A pair of 6s to 10s is worth 3x even though it only pushes as it stands: it is a likely pusher, and it improves to trips or two pair often enough.
Folding gets more expensive each street. A fold gives up everything bet so far, which is why the book keeps playing some hands on 5th Street with a single 1x bet.
Decision drill
Random hands on 3rd, 4th or 5th Street, with the exact value of folding, 1x and 3x. Get ten in a row and you are ready.
How a hand plays
- Bet the AnteThe 3 Card Bonus is optional.
- Two cards for you, three face down in the middleThe three community cards belong to every player.
- 3rd StreetFold, losing the Ante, or bet 1x to 3x the Ante. Then the first community card turns.
- 4th StreetFold, losing everything bet so far, or bet 1x to 3x. The second card turns.
- 5th StreetFold or bet once more. The last card turns, and every bet still in action is paid by your five cards.
3 Card Bonus
A side bet on the three community cards alone: a pair or better wins. It stays in action even if you fold.
House edge 7.10% on the 50-40-30-6-3-1 table shown, the same table and the same math as the 3-Card Bonus in Let It Ride. That's about one and a half times the main game's 4.92% per Ante.
Read the felt. Some tables add a progressive with its own paytable. We don't model it.
At the table
- Budget for ten unitsA hand you play all the way at 3x puts 10 Antes on the felt. Bring 40 or more Antes for a session.
- Bets go in their own circles3rd, 4th and 5th Street each have a circle in front of the Ante.
- Folding is a gesturePush your cards toward the dealer. Everything bet so far stays with the house.
- Every bet is paid the same oddsA royal flush pays 500 to 1 on all of them.
- Check the table versionThe paytable on the felt is what counts.
Mistakes that cost real money
- Betting 1x with a pair on 3rd StreetEvery pair is a 3x bet.
- Playing weak startsTwo low cards without a pair or 6-5 suited fold.
- Betting 2xThe right bet is always 1x, 3x or fold.
- Folding small pairs on 5th StreetA pair of 2s to 5s is still a 1x bet with that much already in.
